Show AN ORDINANCE. An ordinance amending and re-enacting certain resolutions granting franchises to tho predecessors 01 tho Utah Light & Power company. Whereas. Tho City Council of Salt Lako City, on May 20th, 1S93, by Section one of an ordinance granted to the Salt Lako and Ogden Gas and Electric Light company. com-pany. Its successors and naslgns, for a period of twenty-five years from tho dato of said ordinance, a right and prlvllogo to uso and occupy the streets, alleys, lanes and public places of Salt Lake City, for tho purpose of conducting gas and cloctrio current by means of sultablo pipes, wires or conduits, or by uso of wires or conductors placed above said ftreets, or both; That afterwards, to wit. on tho 2Gth day of July. 1S93. tho City Council of Salt Lake City, by Section one of a resolution, reso-lution, granted to Robert M Jones, his heirs and assigns, for a period of twenty-five twenty-five years from said date, a right to occupy oc-cupy tho strcots, alleys, lanes and public places of Salt Lako City, for the purpose of conveying electrical energy and electrical elec-trical current by means of poles and wires abqvo tho surfaco of tho ground, and by means of pipes or conduits laid under tho ground; That afterwards, to wit, on the 19th day of December, 1S93, tho City Council of Salt Lako City, by Section 1 of an ordinance, or-dinance, granted to S. F. Walker, his helra and assigns, for tho period of twen-ty-flvo yeara from said date, the privilege of occupying and using tho streets, alleys, al-leys, lanes and public places of Salt Lake City for tho right and privilege of convoying con-voying gao and electrical current by means of suitable pipes and conduits to bo laid below the surfaco of tho ground, or by means of wires and conductors placed abovn said streets, to bo used for electric lighting and furnishing power and also pipe laid below tho surrnco of the ground for conveying steam for heating heat-ing and furnishing power, nnd other purposes, pur-poses, to tho Inhabitants and property owners and users in said city; That afterwards, to wit, on tho 18th day of May, 1S97, tho City Council of Salt Lako City, by Section one of an ordinance, granted to the Pioneer Electric company, for a period of twenty-five years from tho dato of said ordinance, a right to erect and maintain a slnglo lino of poles In tho streets, alleys and lanes of Salt Lake City, with necessary wires and proper appliances thereto attached, and also to lay pipes and conduits therein for the distribution and conveyance of electricity and gas for said city, to be used by the Inhabitants thereof, for light, heat, power and other Industrial and commercial com-mercial purposes: and Whorcas, Tho Utah Light and Power company, by a series of mesne conveyances, convey-ances, has become tho owner and now Is tho owner of al", tho franchises nbovo sot forth, and is now engaged In building build-ing a largo power station on tbo Jordan river and otherwise Improving Its power Btatlons In Salt Lako City, and for that purpose hn3 Issued a series of bonds, duo in thirty years from January 1, 1900; and has requested that each franchise bo ox-tended ox-tended for an additional porlod of twenty-five twenty-five years, namely, fifty years' time from the time of the granting of said original franchises respectively. Now, therefore, bo It ordained by tho Mayor and City Council of Salt Lako City, Utah: Section 1. That each of said resolutions and ordinances granting said franchises be, nnd tho same Is. hereby amended by striking out from Section 1 of each of said resolutions and ordinances tho words "twenty-five years" and substituting therefor the words "fifty years." Provided. That after May 19th, 191S. six additional arc lights bo furnished free of charge to tho city, during tho life of this franchise. That after July 21th, 191S. six additional nrc lights be furnished freo of chargo to the city, during tho lire of this franchise fran-chise That after Deccmbor 18th. 1918, six additional ad-ditional aro lights be furnlBhed ' freo of chargo to the city, during tho life of this franchise That after May 17th. 1922. seven additional addition-al arc lights be furnished free, of chargo to the city, during tho life of this franchise. fran-chise. Sec. 2. That tho said Utah Light & Power company, its successors and as-falgns, as-falgns, shall placo all their transmission wires within the following bounded district dis-trict of Salt Lako City, under ground, within nlno years from January 1. 1905. to wit: 1. On West Temple street from its Intersection In-tersection of South Templo street south to Fourth South street. 2. On East Templo street from Its Intersection In-tersection of South Temple street -south to Fourth South street. 3. On Stato street from its Intersection of South Templo street south to Fourth South street 4. South Temple street from Its Intersection Inter-section Of West Temple street east to State street. 5. First South street from its intersection intersec-tion of West Temple street cast to Stato street. 6. Second South street from Us Intersection Inter-section of West Temple street east to Stato street. 7. Third South street from Its Intersection Intersec-tion of West Templo street east to State street. 8. Commercial street and Richards street. Sec, 3'. Said Utah Light and Power company shall commence snld work in 1903, and shall build and construct tho necessary conduits nnd ways for such underground transmission wires not less than a distance of ono block each year; that Is to say. tho distance around ono full block each and every year after January Jan-uary 1, 1905, and the whole of said district dis-trict shall be completed within nlno years from January 1, 1905. and tho said Utah Light and Power company shall, by and with tho approval of tno engineer of Salt Lako City, locate the placo and places in the streetB of tho said district in which said wires will b6 laid, on or before January Jan-uary 1. 1906, and the- right to exenvate and build tho said underground conduits and wavs for the transmission wires In said locality Is hereby granted nnd confirmed. Sec. 4. This frnnchlse, with all grants and privileges to be binding only upon written acceptance filed with tho City Recorder within sixty days after Its approval. Sec. 5. This ordinance shall lako effect ef-fect upon its approval. Passed by tho City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, December 11th. 1903, and referred re-ferred to the Mayor for his approval. J. O.
