Show EXCELLENT WORK, C0MMENDABLY DONE. Tl)e People of this city have reason to congratulate themselves that a panic was over ted at the Union school yesterday morning, when a fire alarm was sounded there because of a blaze In the basement. The principal, Mr. AV. L. Wallace promptly notified the teachers, all kept their heads, the children were marshaled in line In the halls, and the 750 children, In the building build-ing marched out of the building in a minute and a quarter. It was an extraordinary ex-traordinary exhibition of efficiency and excellent discipline, and It speaks volumes for the clamncss of mind of the principal and the. teachers and the tvust reposed in them by the pupils. All concerned ore entitled to the warmest warm-est praise. In the nervous state of the public mind, it makes one shudder to think what trie consequences of a panic might have been in that ill-constructed building with its narrow halls and Inconvenient In-convenient means of. egress. It is a mercy that the occasion found the required re-quired nerve, promptness and order that brought all out In safety. |
