Tho Senators from Washington, Ankcny and Foster, sought to havo the reservation reserva-tion ect aside for a National soldlera' homo, against tho wishes of tho peoplo of Idaho. This resulted in the Introduction of u joint resolution by Dubois yesterday to soli the same, and he promised an ad-drcBS ad-drcBS today upon tho resolution which would have been very caustic. This drove tho Washlngtonlans to cover and they wero only too glad to call a halt The result Is they will withdraw a lot-tor lot-tor Hied with the Secretary of tho Interior requesting him to defer action, while Dubois Du-bois moved effectively to havo the resolution reso-lution Indefinitely postponed. The Secretary Secre-tary of the Interior will now order the reservation sold at public sale, and tho contest over tho matter, which has been long-drawn-out, will soon be ended. Tho Mayor of Pocatollo, the Recreation club of that city, ninety-one members, and other citizens have petltolned Senator Hcyburn regarding protection for tho Portneuf river, near Pebble, the same to be used ns a brooding ground for trout. Tho Senator replied that the matter could bo accomplished only by prlvato enterprise, enter-prise, The same proposition was submitted sub-mitted to tho Fish Commissioner last summer, and to tho Commissioner of the General Land office, both orwhom ropllcd lo tho petitioners that there was no law under which thoy could tnko action. Senator Hcyburn today took up with the Co.nmlsloner of the General Land office of-fice the matter of tho appointment of James H. VnnCamp of Challis to bo supervisor su-pervisor of the Pocatello forest reserve, but was advised that no appointment would bo made until spring.
