Show DEPARTMENT H Educational Mrs B G Bamborgcr Supervisor The exhibit this year In the educational educa-tional department Is made almost entirely en-tirely by the grade schools of Salt Lake City the only exception being a collection collec-tion of drawings In pcnoll and watercolor water-color by the students of Sugar school Those hi charge of the exhibit are more Lhan pleased with lie apace allotted lo this department and have taken great T iidc In ranging the excellent display made The work of the schools Is found Just north of the main entrance to tho building and occupies considerably l more than half of the east wall Ontf who has attended the fair year after year cannot help but be Impressed with the Improvement of the work now shown over that of a few years since While there may not be so great varl oly every piece of work displayed shows careful and painstaking effort not only on the part of the child but the In slruulors Not nil the schools of the city are represented but from a quantity quan-tity oC work sent from various schools the bcsl of all grades was selected by a committee and entered In the fair Beginning with the tots III the primary pri-mary grade whose work In an artistic way consists of modeling In clay culling cul-ling oul objects in paper and weaving mats from plpor slips and woolen yarns up to Trie nrtlnllc water colors of students oC the eighth grade samples sam-ples of work from pupils of all the grades are In evidence The water colors col-ors and drawings of the students arc a particularly creditable lot Perhaps the moat beautiful display among the water colors Is the collection of Oriental Orient-al rugs There arc about fifty of them all freehand work and copied from the russ not from pictures The blending of colors In several of them Is exquisite All entries for the educational department depart-ment are made by D L Christensen Superintendent of the City Schools and aside from the articles Cllll mera ted above are samples of penmanship of I exercises In number work arithmetic papers language exercises compositions composi-tions flat surface maps progressive outline maps sketches from nature In charcoal and pencil mechanical drawIng draw-Ing MtatlElIcr of school atlcndfuicc and a model house built by the pupils of Riverside school Much disappointment was felt that neither the high school nor tho University Univer-sity huvc an exhibit this year That made hy the training school at the University last year was particularly fine and those familiar with the artwork art-work done by the students of the high nchool during the past year rcgrcllcl 1 that the people of the Slate at large were not permitted to see tonic of It at the Slate fair Several I pictures of tho city schools were loaned by the Board of Education which also built lie shelves on which wan placed a large part of the exhibit and the railing surrounding the spuco occupied by the school exhibit |
