work and educational edu-cational catonalSHORTAGE SHORTAGE OF SPACE While the grounds are spacious with ample room for horse racing and other outdoor attractions there Is something of a shortage of space In the new exposition expo-sition building which Hew near the southeast entrance to the grounds All of the exhibits arc arranged on the ground floor and a comparatively small amount of standing room remains However several hundred people can be accommodated In the building at a time The exhibits have been placed down each of the four walls of the building and In two columns of several sections each through the center of the building There Is no balcony as In the old exposition building except a small elevated stand for the band which will be in attendance day and night All of the exhibits are being artistically setoff set-off with bunting and streamers of varied va-ried hues PRESIDENT EMPEY TO SPEAK The feature of today will be the horse races which will be caled Immediately after the address of welcome by President Presi-dent Empey which formally opens the Fair The track Is In excellent condition l condi-tion and 0 new grand stand and bleachers bleach-ers have been erected for the comfort of those who witness the races The first event a mile trotting race for horses of the 210 class wlli be for 0 purse of 200 The stakes for the second sec-ond event 300 will go to the fastest of the 220 class pacers The final event a threequarters of a mile dash will give 75 to the winner A lively series of races has been promised for the meet WRESTLING AND VAUDEVILLE Immediately following the contest of heroes there will be a contest of men that IP If any of the local strong men see lit to accept the generous challenge of the Turkish v res tier otherwise known as the Terrible Turk In the big vaudeville tent he will bid defiance to any Tind all and will agree to put any five local athletes down one right after another The Turk says he will not need more than attendance Is promised for today the business houses generally having agreed to clone their doors at 1 oclock In the afternoon Mayor Thompson Thomp-son has Issued I an order directing all the city offices to remain closed throughout the day All the members of the Barbers union hove received orders or-ders to close their doors at 1 p m The Tribune office will be closed at hat hour for the
