| Show VIOLATED INSURANCE LAW Warrant Out for the Arrest of n WellKnown Citizen of Ogden A warrant has been issued for the arrest of H H Goddard an Insurance nan of Ogden on the charge of vlolat i ng1 the State Insurance law A complaint com-plaint was filed on Saturday by County i Attorney Halvorjbon of Weber county I acting under the Instructions of Secretary Sec-retary of State Hammond and a warrant war-rant for his arrest was Issued It is believed that Goddaid will plead guilty I and receive a Hue The maximum penalty Is 300 The offense for which action Is brought dates back to March iCth vheh Goddard wrple an Insurance pol icy I for 1100 on the building and print ng outfit of William Glaamann In Ogden Og-den in the Commonwealth Savings and Insurance company of Richmond W Va In July the building suffered dam age from a fire In an adjoining buildIng build-Ing rind Glasmann attempted to col lect the Insurance There was some difficulty about this and It came to light that the insurance company In question had never filed its articles of ncorporatlon In Utah and therefore was not privileged to do business In this Slate These facts were brought to the attention at-tention of Secretary of Slate Hammond Ham-mond who notified the County Attor aol In Weber to proceed against Mr Goddard A few days ago Goddard called up Mr Hammond by telephone and pleaded for leniency claiming he did not know the company which he represented waa unlicensed in the State The Secretary of State however how-ever decided to continue the prosecution prosecu-tion as an example to others who maybe may-be violating the law I Another case which may come before the courts is that of Ell H Peirce oC Salt Lake who delivered to Robinson Broa a policy for 1000 In the Victoria l lre Insurance company of New York mother unlicensed company Mr Pelrce claimed that the Victoria was merely a branch of a London company whose articles have been filed but the Secretary oC State held that this did not excuse the Victoria and Its agents arid the matter was placed in the hands of County Attorney Christensen who it Is believed will In a row days tile a complaint charging Mr Peirce with violating the law |
