Show IT ISA PLAIN C SEt SE-t A very simple proposition will show to those who are arguing aside from the question on the city school tax suit their error Suppose that the Board of Education had put Into its estimates es-timates for the city school tax a sum that would have required the levy Qf the full CM mills allowed by law does any one doubt that this is the rate which tho County Commissioners would have put into the tax roll No one can doubt It But the Board certified an amount which required a rate of but 62 mills It wanted the 54 mills however how-ever and sought to get it by forcing the Commissioners to change the levy This was a failure It Is plain therefore that the Board I blundered In its estimates and then I blundered again In Its attempt to compel com-pel others to correct its blunder It should have certified 205000 say instead In-stead of the 190000 it did certify then all would have been plain sailing and the 5 mills would have been levied All the talk about powers of taxation and testing rights is the merest moonshine The Board has deprived Itself of some ten thousand dollars of needed school revenue by this blunder Whether it will cut the garment according to the cloth Is somewhat doubtful so far it has shown little disposition to do it |
