Show THE SCHOOL COMMENCEMENTS s The past week has been a week of school commencements In Utah and It has been nn Inspiriting Bight to see the young people with their enthusiasm high Ideals J their pleasant faces and their htalthy bodies full of energy and vital force taking their allotted parts and dcmoiiHtratlng to their parents and to the public that the cost of their educational edu-cational progress has been money well spent that a trained Intelligence of sufficient suf-ficient volume and force to make Itself felt ia thereby added to the community to aid In its uplifting and to stand asa as-a living rock for good citizenship for patriotism for the enforcement of the laws and for the preservation of American Amer-ican Institutions The Pchools of America aro what make the country great It Is In them that the assimilation of the wondrous masses of foreign Immigration is effected Hil from them that the guiding forces of the Republic come and must over come for no Intelligence IB l sufllclent for the needs of presentday life and work save that Intelligence which has been trained in the schools and has been given a glimpse of what man has done Jn the ages past and is doing throughout the world today No one save those who have gone through the schools can master mas-ter the processes and the details of governmental gov-ernmental affairs whether local or general gen-eral in a sufficient degree to become leaders and to take efficient charge of public business The broader and more thorough the training the more completely com-pletely and swiftly will tho mind master and direct perfectly the duties intrusted to it and the better the results of such mastery and direction will appear always al-ways provided that the brain which is s trained and disciplined Is sufficiently keen and strong to aland the training asa as-a stimulus and means to an end and is not crushed or overweighted by Jt And still after all the worlds work In statesmanship skilled callings religion education and general affairs must always al-ways be done by those who can stand the training with benefit and whose bodies can bear up under the strain of doing the great things required So that while a little Jollity Is permissible permis-sible toward the graduates and while the newspapers at times pole fun at them as the allknowing and the all regulating the basic fact remains that they deserve well of the public and everybody recognizes the fact they are the pride of every community the hope and strength of the State and of the Nation |
