| Show Two Minute Sermon liy my Thomas Hast well A GOOD LIFE There died re re- Gently in the town in which I live a II colored man The word of his death dath was received by everyone in teh tell community with sincere regret r gret The local mortuary in which the service was held was filled to ca capacity with friends of the community ity ily who gathered to witness the tho thelast InU last rites In as much as the town in which I live has less than a dozen negro residents the service was conducted by white friends and the pall bearers were white while friends and neighbors What was there about this man mall of another race that caused many to feel a keen personal loss in his going at ata a time when race hatred hatrel often seems not far beneath the surface It ll wasn't because he had few of the possessions that hll are regarded by men as wealth He Ill had no out out- outstanding outstanding standing gift or educational attain ments He lie was employed at the humblest tasks in the community lie He was honest industrious Indu cour cour- courteous courteous leous and always n a gentleman above reproach He lie and his wife fe put their children through high school and college and fitted them to take their places in the world and follow in the footsteps of their worthy parents It is refreshing to realize in this age which is prone to worship wealth and social position tion llou that there still sUIl lives li in the hearts of men without regard to torace torace torace race or 01 color or 01 creed appreciation tion lion and respect and honor for a humble citizen who has hLis lived a n ngo good go life fe in the community |
