Show KING IN CORK Warm Reception Is Given to King and Queen in tho Green Isle Cork Aug IThe firing of royal salutes sa-lutes and enthusiastic cheering welcomed wel-comed King Edward Queen Alexandra and the royal party on their arrival at Cork this morning on board the royal yacht Victoria and Albert The port was bright with bunting the whole town was well decorated and the streets were filled with Jubilant sightseers sight-seers The Lord Mayor and corporation corpora-tion of Cork welcomed the visitors when they landed Their Majesties drove through the decorated streets which were lined with troops and blue Jackets to the race course where the King presented colors to the two Irish rnffTnrtntu The Catholic bishop of Cork was invited In-vited to assist at the ceremony of blessing the colors most of tho men being Catholics but he refused to be associated with the Protestant chaplain chap-lain During the afternoon their Majesties visited the exhibition The royal procession pro-cession i to the grounds was greeted everywhere with the same warmth that marked the previous functions during the Kings tour To the addresses presented pre-sented by local bddlcR the King replied Haying that his previous great Interest In the welfare of Ireland had been further fur-ther deepened by his presouUvlelt He had gained a clearer Insight into the conditions of Irish life and hoped that the legislation on which Parliament was engaged would contribute to the prosperity and contentment of the Irish people But good laws alone could not secure the end There was need of better bet-ter Industrial training for the young a keener spirit of cooperation among all classes and the creation of new and varied sources of employment for the people Their Majesties subsequently returned re-turned to Queenstown where they received re-ceived further addresses The King then made his farewell reply saying the people could rest assured that ho had the interest of Ireland at heart which remark elicited vociferous cheering cheer-ing and much waving of flags and hats The royal visit to Ireland was then brought to a successful close The King and Queen are both enchanted with the tour which It Is admitted on all hands has achieved more toward the settlement settle-ment of the existing Irish grievances than legislation could hope to achieve When thelrlMaJcstlos reembr ked for Cowcs the strains of Come Back to Erin mingled with the salute of the guns |
