J B. B Chase of Woods Cross where a family gathering and dinner will willbe willbe willbe be held in his honor Mr Hancock retired from busi busi- ness in Payson and for fo the past five years has lived with his daugh daughters daughters daughters dividing his time lime in Salt Lake and Woods Cross An active members of L D S church Mr Hancock is now a mem member member member ber of the Orchard ward at Woods Cross where he belongs to the high priests priests' quorum I He was born in Payson April 26 1861 a son of George W. W and Amy Hancock early pioneers On Oct 27 1879 he married Julia Barnard She died Aug 24 1935 1035 As a young man Mr Hancock worked with his father in their mercantile store creamery but but- butcher butcher cher shop and other enterprises He was a member of the home drama organization as u a player and as a promoter When the Pay- Pay Payson Payson Payson son opera house was built he lie pro pro- produced produced produced the first local presentation of Uncle Toms Tom's Cabin Later he remodeled the top floor of the mercantile building into a dance hall hail where he managed dances for many years When the Payson Silver band was organized he was one of its 18 members He operated the power plant for forlis his lis father which was later sold to the city cit He worked in the plant at night and wired many of the bomes homes during the day His Ills five living sons and daugh daughters are Mrs Aurora Duncan Mrs Cecil Manwaring Alton Allon Hancock and Asa Hancock all aU of Salt Lake City and Mrs Amy V.
