Show BARTENDERS FINED 50 EACH + r s I I I Two Men Arrested Sunday Convicted and Third Case Continued i Ministerial Association to Take No Further Action I rwo of the three men arrested on Sunday by OfilcerT Sperry and Smith charged with violating the Sunday closing ordinance were tried before 1 Judgc DIehl yesterday afternoon at the regular session oC the criminal branch of the City COUlt Both men were found guilty und fined 50 each which they paid The first offender called was Joe Davis Da-vis bartender of the Comstock saloon Davis did not deny that he had sold liquor and admitted that he was familiar fa-miliar with the Sundayliquor law jUpoh being found guilty Judge DIehl flncd the offending bartender in the sum above named and said Hereafter Here-after I intend to punish all you men who sell liquor on Sunday Ill be as lenient as possible this time Youll pay 50 or be confined to the city Jail at hard labor for fifty days O W Buck bartender of the Little Denmark resont was called upon to pay a like amount or suffer the conse quences The case of A J Price who Hashed a gun on the officers who arrested ar-rested him was continued until today at 2 oclock In explaining why he had drawn the et gun on the officers Price stated that they were In citizens clothes and ho did not recognize them as officers that they attempted to go behind the bar te and ho thought they were after the money till He stated further that he was merely cleaning up around the bar when the offlcers came III and that no liquor was sold there on Sunday The gIasses standing on tho bar had been left there on the previous evening b y the proprietor of the place he said According to Rev George Bailey sec rotary of the Ministerial l association that body will take no further action oh the question of Sunday closing He said the ministers are convinced that the city administration intends to carryout carry-out the ordinances and that the ministers min-isters do not wish to appear officious In the ttycs of the public The committee commit-tee on public morals was of the opinion opin-ion that nothing further should be done in i the matter and the association accepted the decision |
