Show ANDY BURT HOME WellKnown Salt Laker Back After Three Years in the Philippines Phil-ippines Captain Andrew Burt returned yesterday from tho Philippines where he had been for over three years In the military and police service Captain Cap-tain Burt left Salt Lake In September of 1899 and went to the Islands as cap lain of the Thirtyninth volunteer infantry In-fantry He served with his regiment until it was mustered out and then entered en-tered the police service being made captain on the force and placed in charge of the tenderloin district of Manila where he did good work Prior to going to the Philippines Captain Burt was first lieutenant of the Utah troop In Torreys rough riders and served with that regiment during the summer and fall of 1S98 Captain Burt is now on a leave of absence and is visiting his home for the first time since he went to the Philippines He Is not looking especially espe-cially well and one of his objects incoming In-coming home at this time Is to recuperate recuper-ate It is possible that he will not return I re-turn to Manila as he has several good offers in thin country and may accept one of them He has had much experience ex-perience as a peace officer and was atone at-one time sheriff of Salt Lake county Captain Burt says that Utahns in the Islands generally arc doing well Carl Hard who served with Captain Burt In Torroys regiment and later went to the islands as a lieutenant son s-on the detective force of the Manila police department and is i doing good work Mr Hard has had considerable Illness during tho past year but was well when Captain Burt left Captain Burt expects to bt In the city for some time visiting his relatives rela-tives and hosts of rlends here |
