Show HOME FROM THE ORIENT I P H Lnnnan Returns From a Fine Ocean Voyage and Three Weeks in Japan After spending three delightful weeks In Japan P II Lannan returned to Salt Lake yesterday afternoon He said that he had a smooth and uneventful voyage In each direction and wns thankful that he got away from the land of the Mikado l Mi-kado before he imbibed the lotus eating propensities of the Americans and Europeans who make the island their home Those transplanted foreigners for-eigners readily adapt themselves to the lazy dreamy life of The Orient lose all interest in the strife and turmoil of the slrenuoiTK Occident and when fate compels them to return to the lands of their birth are distracted by the rush and turmoil of Industry and commerce A foreigner in Japan has nothing too to-o but build air castles and drink his favorite beverage which last Is usually whisky When ho steps from his door he finds his jinrickshaw man ready to wheel him to his destination be it only 7 a few doors for a shave or a cigar If the foreigner insists on talking the jin man dogs his steps and is ready lo pick him uj at any point on the road Everything Is done for him and the natural result Is that he becomes as lazy and useless according to Western standards as a wooden Indian |
