DEADLOCK IN HILTON CASE Police Committee Divided Upon Proposition With No Promise of I Change Until Hewletts Return From England There IB i a deadlock in the Police committee of the City Council over the I Hilton affair and the Indications are I that It will hold good until Hewlett gets homer m England An effort vnsmadc night by Eardlcy the chairman of the committee to get a r eport f > on the communication of Chief Hilton appointing certain men to the police force and promoting others The effort resulted in failure as Eardley Fernstrom wanted to make a favorable fa-vorable report while Thomas and Sharp favored an adverse report It vas a case of two and two with no one to decide and the matter had to be declared oft Then the Mayors communication asking1 for the removal of the Chief was taken up with the same result In this case Thomas and Sharp urged a favorable report while Fernatrom and Eardlcy Instinctively took the other side There wag no way ot determining de-termining which would he thc nilnor Ity and which the majority roport although al-though Eardley tQok the position that tho report that he wpuld sign would be tho majority report as he was the chairman of tho committee This was not agreed to by the other members and the matter went over with the in Qlcatlons that both communications will sleep Indefinitely unless called up by the Council
