Show Will HELP UNCLE SAM Arid Land Commission Again Working for Water GATHERING UTAH LAKE DATA To Supplement tha Ropert oi Hydr grapher Newell Commissioners Will Hold Imporfcan < Meeting Today in the Office of tho State Engineer Engneer Members ot the Arid Land Rerlnma lion Fund commission appointed by Coy Wells under authority of an actor act-or the last Legislature to look after Utahs Interests in securing her share of the work to he done by the Federal I Government in the way of Inaugurating i irrigation projects are In the city for the purpose of holding n meeting which may produce results of Importance in connection with the proposition to convert con-vert Utah lake Into a national irrigation irriga-tion reservoir The chief object of this meeting is to consider the advisability of supplementing supplement-ing the report soon to be made by Hy drographer Newell on the Utah lake project with data other limn engineerIng engineer-Ing data The commission is under the Impression that the field work being done in Mr Newells department is approachIng ap-proachIng completion and as the report to be made by him must of necessity be confined to the engineering features of the proposed work it Is considered advisable by many for the commission to prepare for presentation to the Interior In-terior department at the same time certain facts and figures which might greatly aid the Government in determining deter-mining the feasibility of the project In view of the benetfis to be derived The data with which It Is proposed the commission com-mission shall deal will Include a careful estimate of the number of acres oC land which It will be possible to reclaim and the number of people to be benefited together with suggestions ns to the likelihood like-lihood of the Governments getting back the money invested in the Improvement Im-provement I Is needless to say that the faCts and figures thus collected will strongly support the execution of the proposed work and it is considered possible that they might have an Important Im-portant bearing In bringing about a favorable conclusion The Arid Lund commission as it now stands Is composed of the following gentlemen State Engineer A F Dore mus of this city Stale Senator Bennlou of Vernal Representative William E White of Marysvale and Joseph A West of Ogden The fifth member of the commission as originally formed was Mayor Anderson of Mantl who has wince resigned nnd whose Mace nas not yet been filled by the Governor The diameter of the gentlemen composing the commission gives assurance that data prepared by them on the subject In hand will be thoroughly reliable and consequently of no slight value The commission held an informal meeting yesterday afternoon In the office of-fice of State Engineer Doremus but on account of the absence of one member no real business was transacted Another An-other meeting will be held today when It is hoped to arrive at something definite defi-nite |
