Show ANXIOUS TO GET HOME I Extra Session tf Congress May End This Week WILL POSTPONE SPEECHES Number of Sanatftrs Desire tt t Discuss Cuban Bill Expected that a Reassignment of Committees Will Be Made Som Time Today Washington Nov 22The Senate will begin the week In a state of uncertainty un-certainty as to whether a final adjournment adjourn-ment of the extra session will be He cured during the week or the regular dally sessions continued A majority I of the Senators arc anxious to bring the scilons to a close and to this end tan t I an agrement has practically been entered ered Into for a vote December 16th on the Cuban bill I I This acquiescence of the House of Representatives In the programme I I however has not been secured and I I until the two houses reach an agreement agree-ment no definite announcement can be made Leading Senators on the whole are rather confident that an adjournment adjourn-ment will be brought about and say It will be Impossible to hold a quorum of either body after Thanksgiving VOTE ON CUBAN BILL The present understanding Is that a proposition to set a day for adjourn meal will be made by the Senate on Monday or Tuesday whereupon It will DC formally conveyed to the House This will form a basis for negotiation as thus far there has been no conference confer-ence between members of the houses on the adjournment question The understanding In the Senate Is that a day for taking a vote on the Cuban bill will be fixed without regard to the adjournment of the extra ses sion The bill will then bo reported by Senator Cullom and ho will ask that a day be fixed for the vote whereupon December 16th will bo named if the present plan is carried out When the Republican Senators tenure this agreement agree-ment they will be comparatively Indifferent Indif-ferent as to whether the Senate remains In session or not They think It preferable prefer-able that the extra sepilon should corn to a close HH many Senators desire to visit their homes before the regular session ses-sion begins but If an adjournment Is not had there will bo a general agreement agree-ment among Senators which will render ren-der It unnecessary for a majority to remain re-main In Waohlngton SOME WANT TO TALK If any considerable number of Sean torf desire to meet for the purpose of making and listening to speeches on the Cuban bill they will be allowed that privilege with the understanding that no other business shall be taken up If there arc no speeches to be made the Senate will take frequent adjournments for three days at a time as permitted by the Constitution without reference to what the House may do There area are-a number of Senators who desire to discuss dis-cuss the Cuban bill but It is probable that most of them will postpone their speeches until after the beginning of the regular session December 7th WILL TALK ABOUT BILL After being reported tomorrow the Cuban bill will lie on the table for a day unless there Is unanimous consent that Its consideration shall begin immediately im-mediately When It Is taken up Senator Cullom will make a brief speech in explanation ex-planation of its merits and after he concludes there probably will be no more addresses by friends of the bill until toward the clone of the discussion In the meantime the Colorado LouisIana Louis-Iana Texas and Florida Senators and prbably some others will make speeches Intended to cmow that the enactment of the bill Into law will be Injurious to the sugar Interests of the United States and contrary to the best public policy REARRANGING COMMITTEES In addition to receiving the report on the Cuban bill the Senate probably will make a reassignment of Senators to committees tomorrow The committees announcement Is likely to be made the occasion for a speech by Senator Morgan which Is anticipated an-ticipated with considerable Interest In the makeup of the committees the Alabama Ala-bama Senator will bo displaced as chairman of the committee on Isthmian canals He has been chairman of that committee since its organization and has been Identified with It ever since he entered the Senate It Is understood under-stood that he will review to some extent ex-tent his connection with the important work and that In doing BO he will sharply criticise those who fall to agree with him In advocacy ot the Nicaraguan Nicara-guan route |
