Show Health Survey Now in Progress in Community CONDUCTED BY THE UNITED STATES PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE TO SECURE INFORMATION OF LOCAL DISEASE SITUATION The health survey which the government hopes wilt result in a further advance of medical science against disease, was set in motion by the United States Public Health Service in Bingham Bing-ham Canyon, today. Enumerators today began distributing announcements to every home in Bingham Canyon. The announcements inform the householder that a public health representative will call on them within a few days to ask certain questions about sickness that has affected the families during the past twelve months. Particular reference will be made to chronic diseases or physical handicaps existing In the family. When enumerators actually ring ; doorbells for interviews, they will 'present identification letters, signed by Dr. T, B. Beatty, state supervisor supervis-or of the survey for the U. S. Public Pub-lic Health Service. All information j obtained by the enumerators will be translated into a code', and re- corded numerically for statistical purposes only. No. names will be used. The principal types of information informa-tion requested Include questions similar to those asked by the U. S. census-taker every ten years; a list of diseases or accidents during the past year which entirely prevented any member of the household from performing his usual work; and a list of diseases and accidents, which if not entirely disabling, interfere with a person's work. The survey seeks to obtain thii information in order that sickness may be studied In relation to geo- . graphic location, age, sex, housing, economic status, and amount ot time lost from work. Studies wiU also be made, based upon the information in-formation obtained in the survey, of the medical care received by the sick. The state and county medical society so-ciety officers are cooperating with, the U. S. Public Health Service In making this survey, which include about 100 other communities in 19 states throughout the country. Field work in the survey will Toqulre about five months for completion. Dr. R. G. Frazier, county health, official, is being notified of the progress pro-gress of the survey. Dr. F. E. Straup, health official for Bingham Canyon, is being notified periodically periodical-ly of the progress of the survey. The health officials request the cooperation of every household in order that accurate history may be recorded. Cleon A.
