Show A report from United l States Consul Hilary S Burnet at St Etienne I France speaks of gold discoveries In Madagascar Small areas said to be very rich In gold aro being worked on the eastern scopes and near the port of Manangary The gold Is In tho form of small nuggets or of dust taken from the alluvial deposits carried down by two streams from a neighboring mountain It Is supposed that the metal is derived from disintegrated rocks situated at the head of these streams ata point not yet determined and that tho principal lode will be found there The washing of this al lu lal deposit is done in a largo wooden dish and natives mostly do the drudgery of the agitation since they alono can stand the rays of the tropical sun as well as remain In the water for hours each day the gold appearing to be found on fticshore someyhat as at Capo Nome Two prospectors however how-ever have found quartz boulders which I assa upwards oC SO to tho ton and traces of gold have been found overthe whole island The discovery ofrthe gold ledges will no doubt create more or less of a stampede |
