Show OFFICER OF CHILEAN NAVY HERE I Capt Louis Pomar on His Way to tho PanAmerican Fair Capt Luis Pomar of the Chilean navy and his son Luis M Pomar an attorney of Santiago de Chile are guests at the Cullen en route to the PanAmerican fair and Washington I The Captain has been on shore duty as chief of the hydrograpblr bureau I and while In this country will make n1 special study of the hydrographio work of the Government and of naval ordnance He will call on the different differ-ent foreign legations while in Washington Wash-ington as well as on thc President anon an-on Secretary Long of the Navy and will also examine American military engineering methods particularly sapping sap-ping and mining The Captain is an enthusiast in his mission and is observing ob-serving things with a sharp e e His son has been acting as clerk of foreign affairs at Santiago de Chile and will give special attcntlon to colonization I col-onization and public land problems as well as to general socioeconomic problems prob-lems obtaining in tjiis country The Captain said that the olllcers of the I Chilean training ship now in Eastern waters had been Instructed in place a gold plate on the Washington monument monu-ment commemorative of the cordial relations re-lations existing between Chile and the United States The Chilean navy consists con-sists at present of three battleships three armored orulcors I three protected cruisers four transports one training ship three large torpedo boats four small torpedo hoats and four torpedo boat destroyers |
