Show Stoker School Feeds Daily Hungry How would you like to feed children between the ages of 6 and 12 every very day These children are arc given one- one third of oC their daily dilly diet every school day at 12 o'clock sharp and with ith the new lavatories remodeled and enlarged this summer they all come to eat with their hands washed Its It's a real job but the Stoker school In Bountiful has hu planned and organized well and after the children have filed moo in and settled down the teachers 21 of them and principal D. D R. R Tolman assist them in getting gelling a 3 well balanced meal If they dont don't get enough at atthe atthe the first serving servins they may go to the service ice window of the kitchen and get another helping that is until the food is gone One young man took real ad advantage vantage vantage- of this Wednesday The menu included potatoes brown gravy cubed roast sand sand- sandwiches sandwIches sandwiches grapes and md milk The young man came back for the second and then the third helping and when asked how he could cat eat I I so much replied Well Mother I didn't get up and get us any break break- breakfast breakfast fast this morning and I had to ride the bus and I was starved There are arc now students in inthe the 21 rooms of the Stoker school Any of them may milY have lunch each cach day for lor ten cents This well plan plan- planned ned meal costs an average avenge of about twenty six cents The rest Is paid from state and md federal funds There arc are six cooks at the Stoker school They prepare cook and ration the servings out equally When meat or or fish is served they have it cut in ounce 2 squares Milk l is always alwil's served The menu each day is announced every morn mom morning mornIng ing over the radio The Stoker school was one of the first schools of oC the state to start a school lunch program It began besan in 1918 At that time they had hild two two- two five five gallon allon of ve cans soup u o. o ot i j tin fiR I ext a school room j Then cups the me I It f nd J te h tr e s r NOm m ID t t he here the dons don's we d lays bout 1930 tho the gymnasium wa Was wad leil to the school and the Ule lunch program became a project Meals M Is were then served for 3 t ceata ce te ts a 3 day Then government aad and federal aid came in and the pro pro- program program gram expanded until now they are feeding the largest group they have hilve ever had and giving them the best of oC balanced meals |
