Show FREE RURAL DELIVERY I Growth of the System in Salt I I Lake County j HOW WORK HAS BEEN DONE Postmaster Thomas Receives Detniled Instructions Relating to tho Start l I ing of ServIco on Now Boutcs From 0 Caldcrs Park Ho Reviews the < Establishment of the System Which Now Serves So Many Residents of ctlic County Cooperation of Sena rtor and Representative i Postmaster A L Thomas received yesterday detailed Instructions from Lho Postofllce department at Washington 1 Washing-ton relative to the establishment of free delivery routes 1 and 2 from Calders parkJanuary I 1st next When asked for o brief statement of rural delivery i Inthls county Postmaster Thomas said I Some three years ago In company with Special Agent Annin I visited I Murray and together we went over the I first route established In Utah and Vincent Shurtlllt was appointed carrIer car-rIer The route has been a signal success I suc-cess from he beginning Sopn after I some citizens accompanied by Post I master Wilson of Sandy called upon I I me as did also citizens from Murray Wo laid 1 out the three routes from Sandy I San-dy and one additional from Murray I Special Agent Osborne accompanied me over these routes Next Postmaster Walker and citizens citi-zens of Rlverton asked me to aid in securing a route covering Rlverton and r Kerriman The papers were prepared as were also the papers for route No 4 from Sandy These papers were indorsed In-dorsed by Senator Kearns and Representative Repre-sentative Sutherland At the time the Jlrst three routes from Sandy were established I es-tablished tho citizens of Mill Creek I asked me to aid them in securing a route The papers for the route were ulso Indorsed by enator Kearns and I Representative Sutherland and soon after Special Agent Osborne came to Salt Lake In company with him and Inspector Sharp I went over all these I routes and at the same time laid out what will be known as route No2 from Calder park running west to Granger and Hunter The Alill Creek route will be known as Calders park route No1 We also laid out route No 8 from Murray west to TaylorsvIlle whirJi had previously been Indorsed by Senator Kearns and Representative Sutherland We also ina de realignment of tho lines of route No 1 from Murray and routes Nos 1 and 3 from Sandy All these routes have been ordered established by the department except Jug route No 4 1 from Sandy running cast to Butlervllle and the foothills and the Riverton and Herriman route The County Commissioners under the lead of the late Bishop Rawlins assisted us by furnishing maps and Senator Raw llns also look an Interest in the estab lishment oC the first route from Murray Mur-ray Postmaster Peters oC American Fork called upon me about a year ago in the Interest of a route east from American I Fork to Alpine This was the lirst rural delivery work done In Utah coun and thIS route has been estal IIshe i |
