Show NO COFFINS TO BE HAD Many Victims of Galveston Storm Buried in Sea Galveston Tex Sept 10The dead are still being searched out and buried some of them in the sea and some of them on the beach and still others in the cemeteries There are no coffins left People are knocking together pine boxes and getting lumber from the ruins of their homes In which to bury their dead They canrot take them to the cemeteries so they bury them within with-in what was once their yards mending to Inter them In cemeteries after matters mat-ters have assumed their normal aspccL rhe dead who have no relatives loft are treated with scant courtesy there Is no time for ceremony and they are put Into the sand of the beach or into the gulf The Injured are being taken care of nsw ns-w 1 as could be expected Physicians are on the go all the lime 1 who were not badly hurt are being put aside tumpoiarlly 1 lor those who really need the sevlces of doctors or surgeons and those are so many that their number cannot be computed with any accuracy Of the slightly hurt there arc some thousands as the majority of the people peo-ple found In the streets have wpunda or bruises of some kind The city and island 1 Is covered with carcasses of horse mules cows dogs ruts and cuts The odor from these and from the human bodies Is poisoning the all and It Is a matter of Impossibility Impossi-bility to dispose of even on tenth of thc putrlfylng caicasses this week The number of people trying to leave Is great not nil of them want to stay away permanently but they desire tog to-g t to relatives and friends elsewhere to recover from the shock They want to get where there Is plenty of food Set and drinking water and medicine and not so much danger of sickness that may prove as fatal as wind and water |
