Show MEMORIAL SERVICES HELD TRIBUTES TO FRANCES L LARD AND MRS HENRY I I I W C T U Conducts Exercises in Iilcmory of Two Women who were Devoted to the Organization 1 l The memorial service for Miss Frances I Fran-ces E Wlllard and Mrs S lI 1 Henry held by the Womans Christian Temperance Tem-perance union in the parlors of the Y M C A yesterday afternoon was well attended the largo parlor being Insufficient In-sufficient to accommodate all who came I Potted palms and rOes were used effectively I effec-tively Sn decoration A large picture of I Miss Wlllard draped with an American I Ameri-can flag and a small one of Mrs Henry wreathed In smilax were placed near the front of the frnt room Devotional exercises were led by Lira I n A Smith Then Rev Alfred II Henry who knew Miss Wlllard j for many years spoke interestingly of her life and work saying that the W C T TJ of today Is the monument which that noble woman erected to herself He spoke of her wonderful success asa as-a speaker and leader and doubted If the W C T U will ever find another I who will possess the same power of holding together such a band of women wo-men for love of a cause which one might espouse Miss Jessie Dean read a poem To Frances 15 Wlllard after which Mrs Benlta RabinCocks sang with much feeling the Homeland one of Miss Wlllards favorite songs Mrs Charles E Plummer read an interesting account of the life and ser vices of Mrs S 11 T Henry for many I years a worker In the W C T U who 1 I recently died In Tennessee As author lecturer and evangelist Mrs Henry created for herself n name which will live long In the memories of the Christian people of the country She was the mother of Rev Alfred 1L I Henry Nearer My God to Thee was sung by the audience after which Rev Mr Henry pronounced the benediction A thank offering was taken to carryon carry-on the work In new fields 373 being realized therefrom |
