Show WHAT FOE 7 I I I would be sad if It were not so laughable to soc the efforts of a near contemporary to prove that silver Is the real Issue of the present campaign and that any one who ever favored silver restoration who does mot suppOrt sup-pOrt Mr Bryan now Is a turrtcoat and traitor i Mr Bryans platforms bothof them ate greenback platforms He has not the slightest Idea of restoring silver except as a substitute metal and worse still subordinate to greenbacks Those platforms call for 5 In paper for every dollar In silver and that this Is tHe understanding of every Populist can easily be established by talking with any one of them This Is the reason that Mr Bryan has not dared to discuss the silver question during the campaign When he says he stands where he did four years ago he attempts at-tempts a deception for he practiced a deception on the whole American people peo-ple all through his 1S9G campaign lie pretended be a Democrat then and fought for the money of the Constitution Constitu-tion Has any one heard of his doing any such thing this year Hardly But he was Insincere then as Is clearly cear ly proved by his position this year for this year he Is back where he stood In IS2nn out and out grccnbacker and Gen Weaver is supporting him as cordially this year as he supported Weaver eight years ago In his public address to the Populist convention Gen Weaver declared If 1 was not only tho duty but the salvation of the party par-ty for every Populist to support Mr Bryan Hence If there is a Silver Republican In Utah who contemplates voting for Bryan he should understand In advance ad-vance that If Mr Bryan Is elecled he will get If I Mr Bryan has the power not a restoration of silver but such a Hood of greenbacks as will drive both gold and silver out of sight Then by voting for him he will also have to vote forv free trade which would prostrate trade as much as It did before He will have to vote for the disgrace dis-grace of the Supreme Court of the United States He will have to vote likewise for making an appropriation to reward Agulnaldo and his cutthroats for killing kill-Ing American soldiers He will have to vote to smash bylaw I by-law every leading Industry In America He will have to vole to set the In duslilal army In motion again and for the restoration ot free soup cafes He will have to express his belief through his ballot that the army of the United States of seveneighths of a man for every 1000 of the population Is menace to free government He will have to deliver a vote of censure upon the present Administration Administra-tion for obeying and executing thc laws and to reward with the Presidency Presi-dency a man whose chlcfest effort seems to be to Incite the animosity o the poor against the rich and who in no thought that he has ever expressed has given an Impression that he possesses pos-sesses either the capacity or sense of justice to administer the affairs of this Republic wisely |
