| Show ii1 G1 BUTTON ILIED Lost Life in CaveIn at West Honerine Mine RECOVERY OF THE BODY Mr Button Was at Work in a Stope When the CaveIn Occurred and Was Crushed Beneath Many Tons of Rock and Dirt Big Force of Men Worked for Fivo Hours Before Remains Re-mains Were Beached Body Will Be Brought to Salt Lake Today I Wife Prostrated Herbert G Button the wellknown contractor and builder of this city was I Instantly killed by a caveIn at the West Honerine mine at Stockton yesterday yes-terday The news of the fatality reached Salt Lake from Stockton at 7 oclock last evening and ODonnell Co were asked to send a man to Stockton Stock-ton this morning to bring the body here The accident occurred in one of the slopes of the West Honerine Mr Button But-ton and his fellowworkmen had been engaged in making air connections in the mine and Mr Button went Into an old slope for the purpose of clearing out some of the debris which was Interfering 1 in-terfering with the circulation of the air A boulder being In the way he i i dislodged it and at once there was a movement from the bulkhead of the stope and in a moment more there was a caveIn which covered the unfortunate unfortu-nate man with tons of rock and dirt An alarm was immediately sent out and men from neighboring mines poured In and went to work to recover the body Five hours work was required I re-quired however and It was not until C oclock that the dead body of Mr But ton was reached Tho remains were I then removed to Stockton and will be I brought to Salt Lake today H G Button was a native of New York but had resided in Salt Lake for twelve years He came here from Wichita after a three years residence at that place having gone to Kansas direct from his old New York home For a number of years after his arrival here LMr Button was quite prominent j in politics and at one time was chair man of the Republican city committee He was also a member of the Constitutional Constitu-tional convention His business has al ways been that of a contractor and builder and he enjoyed the confidence and esteem of a wide circle of friends and acquaintances Mrs Button who resides Avth her tenyearold son In the ISagle block was completely prostrated when the terrible news Avas broken to her last evening I Mr Button became Jointly Interested In the West Ilonerlne mine with W A Byers about six months ago and since that time has 1 spent the greater portion of his time at the property |
