Show JACK BURRIS IS DROWNED t Wetl Known Bicycle Rider Meets His D I athin the WaUjrs of the Pacific < The racing men at the cycle track were greatly shocked yesterday when John Slaver announced to them that Jack Bun Is who Is well known here was drowned last Thursday night while on his way by steamer from Seattle to British Columbia by falling overboard Frank G Barnett sent the Information to John Staver by mall Burris left here the 21th of June last for Butte where he remained about two months From there he went to Seattle August 13th where he won his first open race He then went to Olympia and then to Seattle from which city he took the boat to Vancouver with the Intention of leaving there for Australia Burris was of a very nervous disposition and at times when he would mount his wheel for a race he would shake so that his feet slipped off the pedals He would go to the track two l three and even four hours before the races were called saying that he was not going to bo late for anybody and would go to the track alone He was greatly disturbed I dis-turbed In his sleep talking a great deal and at tlnies would lie on his back with eyes open staring at the ceiling for an hour at a time Several the racing men state that they believe he was I somewhat unbalanced and that when he got upon the water It affected him in such a way that he lost control of himself and fell overboard He was a team mate of William King last season I the two men being among the most I prominent In the amateur class He rode as a professional this season at which game he was making a Success He had many friends In Salt Lake who will regret his sad end He came here from Los Angeles and was only 19 years old Ho was an honest and capable rider and gave promise of brilliant fu lure |
