Show STOLE HER OWN CHILD Woman Uses Revolver to Secure Se-cure Little Girl at Ogden I FATHER HAD SECRETED HERE HER-E A Vail of Salt Lake Got Possession Posses-sion of His SixYearOld Girl Last I February and Concealed it from the I Mother by Placing it in Sacred Heart Academy at OgdenMrs i Vail and her Mother Went to Ogden and Recovered tLj Child Yesterday I After an Exciting Time I V I An excited mother a determined g13n mother and a dangerouslooking but empty revolver caused a commo ion at the Sacred Heart academy at Ogden yesterday The women who ire the prime cause of the commotion are Mr 13 A Vail and Mrs McDonnell Mc-Donnell both of whom reside in Salt Lake The object of their visit to the Function City was to secure possession or Mrs Vails sixyearold daughter who was spirited away by the father In February last and recently placed in the academy as a pupil When the two women reached Ogden esterday shortly before noon they vent direct to the academy and gained admittance When they discovered he child they attempted at once total to-tal < e her away but the sisters Interfered inter-fered and prevented it Mrs McCon icll then went up town to consult a lawyer leaving Mrs Vail and the child at the academy When Mrs McDonnell Mc-Donnell returned she was allowed to go up on the second floor where the nother and child were and seizing the little one she ran down a stairway 1 and out a side entrance An alarm was Immediately given I and one of the sisters and a number ot the pupils started in pursuit It was then that Mrs McConnell arising Io I the demands of the occasion as she viewed them dived into one of her stockings and came up with a rusty I old revolver which she pointed at the pursuing party The gun was empty but the pursuers didnt know this anJ they very promptly gave up the chase Mrs Vail then left the building and joined her mother They took the child to the city jail I where Mrs Council the Janitors wife prepared dinner for them As Mrs McConnell stepped up to a water tap in the corridor she collapsed and fell In a dead faint on the floor She soon revived re-vived however and later the party went to the depot to take a train jo I Salt Lake There they learned that I their troubles were not yet ended as Detective Fender met them there and attempted to arrest Mrs Vail at the name time ordering her to return with the child to the academy Mrs Vail Insisted that she could not be legally arrested for taking ho own child and refused to take the little one back to the academy This all struck the officer as fairly good logic and he allowed Mrs Vail to return to Salt Lake In going to Ogden to secure possession posses-sion of the child Mrs Vail acted upon the advice of her attorneys Powers Straup Lippman who had advised ad-vised her as to her rights In the premises prem-ises |
