PRESIDENTIAL SUCCESSION Referring again to the dilemma which the country would be in were the Presidentelect and the Vice Pres identelect to die between the time of their election the Electoral college and the time for Inauguration a friend has made a suggestion that would avoid all dllllculty and bo directly Inline In-line with the theory and genius of our Institutions It would be simply to make the term of the Electors four years then incase in-case of the death of the President or Vicepresident to have these Electors convene and elect a new VlcePresl dent What would there be wrong or inconsistent about that The PesI dent dies the VlcePrcsldcnt become President why should not the men who upon the authority of the people elected the first VicePresldent elect I another It may be said that a dozen or score or oven a majority of States might In I that time change their sentiments and so might the Electors Very well then the vote of the Electors would be up to date We see no fault In the plan I only there should be a provision to guard against a temporary interim incase In-case both President and VlcePrcsI dent should be taken off tpgethcr I
