Show THIRD WARD CARNIVAL Merrymakers Have a Royal Time at Their Entertainment Thc merrymakers opened their carnival carni-val at the Third ward meetinghouse last evening and a right royal gather Ing It was The hall had been most gayly bedecked In honor of the king and queen and members of the royal court and the scene was an unusually attractive one James II Ball was the king of the carnival nnd Miss Pearl Wcllcr the queen They were attired In full regal costumes and looked every inch a king and queen lhe ladles of the court were May Smith and Daisy Grames the lords Jule McMurrla and Bert Angell the pages Myrtle McCoy and Lola Coulter the jesters Sid Clawson and George Margetts prime minister f Philip Mnycock IAn I I-An Interesting programme was given In the early part of the evening and included a song by Will Wllles a guitar i solo by Prof Schemer a recitation by Ed Midglcy a cornet solo by I John i Held a rainbow dance by Sybil Foote I and a cakewalk by Sybil Foote and I George Margctts Mr Harold Orlob was the accompanist of the evening Another feature of the evening was the Palace of Varieties where Messrs Rolf Grames James Perry and Harry Allen amused the spectators with songs dances acrobatic feats etc Several booths were arranged around the hall and were the center of attrac tion uuriny me later part 01 me evening even-ing Miss Agnes Gibson had charge of the fancy work booth Miss Pearl Colton Col-ton of the candy booth and Miss Rachel Hodges of the lemonade booth Numerous articles donated by generous merchants were sold and lickels for raflllng a great many were also sold Over 150 people were in attendance last evening and quite a sum was realized I real-ized The purpose of the carnival Is to raise means with which to build an I amusement hall just back of the meetinghouse I meet-inghouse The entertainment Is in the hands of the young people of the ward 4 and deserves a large patronage I It will he continued this evening tomorrow afternoon and evening a different pro J gramme being offered each time |
