Show SUGK BURGLAR GAUGHT He is Red Price a Man With a Record HE CONFESSED HIS GUILT I Some of the Plunder Recently Stolen Was Pound in Prices Room and Ho Admits Having Entered a Number Num-ber of Houses Within the Past Week Has Served a Term in Colorado Colo-rado Penitentiary for Burglary Ho Bobbed Thirteen Houscs in Denver Before Being Caught After a week of hard work the police finally captured the smooth housebreaker housebreak-er about 3 oclock yesterday afternoon Detective Sheets and SciLt J annoy are the officers who made the arrest The limn arrested gave his name as James II Morris claiming that ho Is 21 years old and a stonecutler by trade His right name however the officers say Is Red Price and he was recently I cq tdk qji V luiiWrnr Al I fI I er0 James H Morris Alias Bed Price pardoned from the Colorado penlten liary at Canyon City He was serving1 a seven years sentence there for but glary the charge which will be made against him here When searched at the police statIon he had In his possession pos-session 3 10 a gold watch a silk hand kerchief and five skeleton keys which I the police say are some of the fines I that they have ever seen Upon being questioned by the officers Price at first claimed that lie came to Salt Lake on Monday but later they say he admitted admit-ted that he had been here since Ihe first of the month CONFESSES HIS GUILT Upon being more closely questioned the officers further say he also admitted admit-ted that he was the man who of late had burglarized all the houses which have 1 > een entered In the city He said that he had kept from the uptown streets as much as possible confining his operations to the outside districts and that he ale his meals at a restaurant restau-rant on West South Temple street The police say that since Prices first break they have known who he was and where he came from but were notable not-able lo catch him as he is one of the smoothest men of his type tll0 ever visited vis-ited the city Officers Sheets and Jan ney had been working night and day for a week trying to locate him but did not do so until a day or two ago since which time they have been watch ing for him Detective Sheets says that the case of Price is the hardest he has had to deal with for a long time CAUGHT ON SOUTH TEMPLE The two olllcers first saw Price yes terday near South Temple and First West streets where he mailed a letter He lien went east about half a block to a little store where he purchased a collar While he was making his purchase pur-chase Sheets went into lie store and stepping up to him put his hand In Prices nip pocket and pulled out his gun Price was taken completely by surprise and was immediately placed under arrest After Price was placed In Jail the two officers went lo his room in i the Alvord house where the landlady said he had been slopping for eight days and found considerable of his plunder sored In the washstand Most of the stuff answered the de scription of that which was reported stolen to the police Among the plun der was an overcoat supposed to have been stolen from the residence of S B Harnmel 318 South Sixth East street and a ring answering IheMescriplion of the one stolen from Eber W Hall l the undertaker Monday night Price told the police that he sent most of tho stuff away but refused to tell where It i was sent Price Is a man about 5 feet 10 Inches Iq height quite slim and of a blond complexion SAYS HE DIDNT CONFESS When seen by a reporter last night Price denied everyhing that the police say he told them earlier Jn the day und claimed as he did to them at first that he came here Monday and that he had not broken into a house since he ar rived He also denied that he had served a term In the penitentiary in i Canyon City When asked where he came from here he Bald I dont know as It is necessary for me to answer that question now The police say that when Price was in Denver he occupied rooms In the resi deuce portion of the city and robbed thirteen houses before he was caught It aa for those offenses that he was serving time In Coloiado |
