| Show TO SET ASIDE LOCATION Locators of Limestone Quarry Will Contest Right of State It has been known for a lOng time that the shale found In great quantities quanti-ties near what Is known as Uagles rock In Parleys canyon or Golden pass as It was called In the early days when it wns a tollroad has many qualities that make It desirable for use as a road material It is easily crushed but when once put on the roads becomes as hard as cement Late demonstrations have shown that It may be used to a Inrgo degree In the manufacture of cement and the lime contained In it makes therock also valuable for use in the smelters nearby near-by for fluxing purposes The case with which these lands may be reached is also an Item And herein arises another question that the courts will have to determine It seems that on October 30 1893 the Slate selected certain lands In section 38 township 1 south of range 2 oust lying about ten miles southeast of this city near the mouth of Parleys canyon can-yon and on March C 1301 Dr Seymour Sey-mour B Young in connection with Judge Le Grand Young and Oscar Moyle and others made a mineral location lo-cation known as the Union Limestone quarry placer embracing 120 acres and Immediately thereafter through Attorney Edwin TV Senior instituted Ijioccedtngs before the Commissioner rf the General Land office at Washing ton to set aside the Stales selection with tho result that the Commissioner how orders a hearing to determine the issues The contention of placer applicants appli-cants la that the land contains largo deposits of limestone shale and cement ce-ment whlc h arc mineral in character and hence the State Is not authorized under the enabling act to appropriate the same |
