other anxious members of the Roberts household for his arrival at that town last night When Mr Roberts alighted from a I Pullman coach at the Oregon Short Line depot hapkmon and others feared for the asphalt platform but fortunately tunalely his step was light and the material escaped with a few severe contusions WORE GOOD CLOTHES The distinguished gentleman was dressed In the height of fashion His shining new silk tile vied almost with I the noonday sun In brightness a black overcoat fitted him closely over his accustomed ac-customed Prince Albert suit and his shoes presented a gloss which reminded remind-ed the lookerson of the oldfashioned Illustration on the blackingbox top A representative of The Tribune had the enviable honor and almost overwhelming over-whelming gratification of being the first Salt Laker to grasp the rejected Congressman by the hand as he alighted alight-ed from the car but right h cas the r boys saywhen thay sit do wo to a quiet gamtf of draw friendship bout a man of his exalted station but instead he choose a street car a plebeian ramshackle old street car that runs extra and caters to the hotel and other trade a vehicle of locomotion which cI > al town HIS ONLY RECEPTION At the Intersection of West Temple and South Temple streets four men recognized Mr Roberts through the car window As theIr salutation was in the nature of a receptIon it looked good to Roberts and in recognition of the attention bestowed upon him ho I smiled and deferentially elevated his silk hat a few Inches I Mr Roberts remained on the car until un-til It reached Main and First South streets and there he disembarked with all the dignity that his exalted station required He was accompanied by his late prIvate secretary and together the two hastened to the ofllce of James II Moyle attorney for Roberts There Mr Roberts held an Informal levee l I with such gentlemen as happened to I drop in to See Mr Moyle on legal business I nessARRESTED ARRESTED BY THE SHERIFF In the meantime the Sheriffs office had been noli lied that Mr Roberts was r In the city and half an hoiir later Sheriff Howclls appeared on the scene and courteously presented Mr Roberts > with a J warrant of arrest upon4the charge of unlawful cohabItation with Dr Maggie C ShIppRoberts This warrant Is based upon the complaint sworn to by Charles Mostyn Owen after af-ter the departure of Roberts for the East in November last Upon the suggestion sug-gestion of some or Mr Robertss friends who were present ho was not put to thelnconen1eUccoC accompanying accom-panying the Sheriff the ofllce of the Justice as a less distinguished prisoner prison-er might have been but Instead was released upon his own recognizance after receiving Instructions from the Sheriff to appear before Justice Kroe ger at 10 oclock tomorrow morning for a preliminary hearing I DICTATED INTERVIEWS While In Ogden Mr Roberts had I I dictated an Interview to his late pil vale secretary for the Dcseret News and shortly after his arrival at Mr I Moyles office he was waited upon by a reporter of the cmblamed organ who also solicited the receipt of any gems which might fall from the dIstinguIshed dIs-tinguIshed genllemans lips Instead of submitting to an Interview in the regular way however Mr Roberts secured se-cured the aid of Mr Moyles stenographer stenog-rapher and dictated a statement which was turned over to the Herald reporter re-porter after careful revision Mr Robert mission at the office of Mr Moyle was to consul that gentle mart with rcBpoel to contemplated proceedings pro-ceedings in the United States court for the recovery of the amounts which he claims lire due him for mileage and Hilary DespIte frequent InterruptIons tho matter was gone over with some care buL Mr Moyle was Slot in a po t sltion to state last nigh definitely as to whether or not proceedings would be instituted Mr Roberts remained at the office of Mr Moyle until nearly 30 oclock Then he left and proceeded northward on Main street When opposite the Constitution building he crossed over and stopped and chatted with friends whom he met on the street He then went to Farrlngtons livery stable on South Temple street between Main and Richards streets VISITED WIFE NO3 There a rig was procured and entering I en-tering the buggy alone Mr Roberts I drove west on South Temple to West Temple street thence north to North I Temple thence cast to North State street and thence south to the cosy residence of Dr Maggie C Shlpp Roberts a lady who gained considerable considera-ble eminence during thc investigation I investiga-tion of the Roberts case at Washington Washing-ton and one whom Roberts Inferentially Inferential-ly l denied ever having married Mr Roberts remained at Dr Maggie C ShlppRobertss house for about an hour during which time he ate a light lunch and prepared to drive to Cen lervllle Leaving the residence of wlfo No3 at about 8 oclock Mr Roberts started on his lonesome Journey to Cenlerville where his other two wives and the famous twins awaited him Arriving at Centcrvlllc Roberts drove to the home of his first wife where he was greeted by the members of
