rainy and the managers of the fair bad as bad a case of blues as could bo found m a days Journey This did not prevent them however from going ahead and making preparations for what has always been thoroughly dissatisfied with the manner in which they had been treated In their tF objection to the callle of J H White being awarded prIzes on the ground y that White was a supervisor in the r cattle department and therefore in a position where he could Influence the I Judgcs and winding up with the notice that if 11 White shall continue an an LI official of the association and an ex hlbilor at the same time they shall decline de-cline to make a showing at all This notice say the directors should have been given months ago Each cattleman cattle-man knew While was a director a su ervlsor and sees much to his regret that there IA i too great a tendency toward the lighter employments both on the part of the young men and the young women wo-men This Is an evil he thinks that in time will do great harm to the State He has an idea that the skilled artisans of the State should be the boys and the girls who have grownup grown-up here and who have intulthely acquired ac-quired knowledge of the needs of the State that the foreigner who has been trained in the schools of the old countries I coun-tries cannot have The success attained at-tained at Logan the professor bellexcs will do much to call the attention of people In other parts of the State to the great benefit derived from manual training schools of which there should be at least one in each county I It has been no easy matter he said to convert people to the ideas evolved I by the Government when the agricultural agricul-tural colleges and experiment stations I were adopted but I believe that the school at Logan has done as much for the State if not more than any other educational Institution within its I borders Ve have about two hundred pupils now and these will be added to weekly for some time We believe rSn thoroughness In all we do and take up no new branch of work until tho pupil has thoroughly mastered the first one We are opposed to the cramming and the veneer system which too often prevails We feel too grateful for and highly complimented with tlC very liberal patronage already I given and shall leave nothing undone lo deserve it Our exhibit wus shipped from Logan on Saturday last and should have becn hero early on Monday Mon-day morning but for the railroad delays de-lays RECOMMEND SPECIAL AWARDS The judges in the horticultural and floricultural departments last evening even-ing recommended that special praise he given the Agricultural college State School for the Deaf and Blind and State Insane asylum for the magnificent mag-nificent displays of fruit showing th3 I great interest those in charge of these institutions are taking in the horticultural horti-cultural Industry and they also suggest sug-gest that each of these Institutions be awarded a diploma and that future exhibitors be encouraged to follow the example of thc Agricultural college in so accurately naming the different fruits they exhibit The latter recommendation re-commendation Is taken by the
