Show HOW CAPTAIN WURPHY DIED The Manila Freedom of August 31st gives the particulars of the death of Capt Murphy of the Thirtyninth regiment ing regi-ment from which we copy the follow Capt Murphy was stationed at Tanauan with his company and on August 13th received Augult ceived word through native sources of tiio presence of 0 number of Insurgents at a I small I village three miles west of Tan 1 I auan called Natatoa and with fifty men started In n pouring rain at S oclock the next morning for tho village Just before reaching tho rendezvous Capt Murphy and two of his men left tho company and entered tho village In advance ad-vance of them As they advanced three men woro seen standing In Limo road In i front of sojno houses and two others were standing at the gateway time house Capt Murph recognized ono of the men In the road as a native whom he had known In Manila He dismounted and advanced ad-vanced on fool toward him unl was within a few paces of the three men and was In time act o extending his hand to tho nntle he know when one of the cownrdly brutes In tho gateway shot him I through the lion it killing him instantly As time Captain foil tho Filipino to whom he extended his hand drew a revolver and also fired the ball striking his cartridge belt and glanced off The moment the shots were tired tho assassins as-sassins jumped In to the thick brush In the rear of the group of houses In front of which the Captain met his death I Those wore some of libertyloving I Christian gentlemen over whom to establish es-tablish a Government without the consent con-sent of the governed would be such I tyranny that by the act our own liberties I liber-ties would hr placed In deadly peril I Vive la humbug I II I |
