Show FOULGERS HEROIC CAPTURE Arrests an EarlyMorning Prowler Who is Released by the Police and Again Arrested as a Suspicious Character Early Sunday morning Herbert Foul gcr of GS K street was alarmed by the raising of a window of a room where one of his children lay 111 The window had been left partly open in order that better ventilation might be secured A few minutes later he bad occasion togo to-go outside and In the yard lie discovered discov-ered a man Asked as 10 what be wanted the man vouchsafed no reply and then It was that Mr Foulger threw himself upon the Intruder He took the fellow to the store which was but a short distance away and telephoned for police assistance The wagon was sent out and the man conveyed to police headquarters Just before he was token away Foulger said to the olllcers that as the man had done no damage to sneak of lie did not know that he cared to prosecute him but would leave thcs matter entirely with them The man was taken to the station where he AVHS examined by Sergt Brown There was one susnlcious clrrumRtanco nbnur the arrest outside of the unseemly hour at which it was made and that was that his feet were encased in a pair of rubbers Instead oC the ordinary shoes Sergt Brown questioned tho man and allowed him to depart saying that he did not sec what tho fellow could be held for especially In view of the fact that the man upon whose premises he was found did not care to j prosecute him When tho man reached the station i Officer Chase was of the opinion that he recognized the prowler us an old resident of Davis county whose name ho could not exactly remember To Foulger the fellow said hIs name was Warden and that he had been up to the fort and had lost his way The fact that he bad on a pair of rubbers Instead ot shoes did not seem to cut any rtguru in the eyes of the police Yesterday morning when Mrs Foul gor made a tour of the back yard she was considerably surprised lo llml near the back fence a pair of shoes and a hatchet The edge of the latter indicated indi-cated that It hud been used on nails It vas also believed that the man in the rubbers who had been apprehended by Mr Foulger earlier in the morning was the owner of both the hatchet and the shoes So Mr Foulger was informed and he at once went to the police headquarters head-quarters and great was his disgust when he found that the man whom he had apprehended at the risk of his life and had then turned over to the police had been allowed to depart He told the police of his latest llnd and later In the day an effort was made to discover dis-cover the whereabouts of the man who had been turned loose as It was evident evi-dent that he was worth having So Ofllcer Chase set out and at D oclock last night found the fellow who then gave his name as Thomas Moran In his pockets were found a handful oC burned matches and a couple of small pieces of candle which showed conclusively conclu-sively that be had used a light where It was the part of wisdom to drop the burned matches Into his pocket rather than upon the Moor Moran was booked upon the charge of vagrancy Later he was thoroughly examined In order to discover whether or not he had any fine saws or other burglarious tools in his possession Nothing of the kind however wus found He was vory indignant at being again arrested One thing against him also Is his statement that he bad roomed at the Leudvlllc house while the proprietor of the house denies that he ever stopped there |
