Show FINANCIAL BILL CONSIDERED Republican Members of Conference Committee Hold Session I Washington Feb 17The Republican members of the conference committee I having charge of the financial bill held a protracted session today beginning at 1 a m and lasting until shortly before 1 3 p m During part of this time Secretary Sec-retary Gage was present having been invited to give his views upon certain features of the measure At the close of the days session It was stated by members of the conference that no conclusion con-clusion had been reached on the bill asa as-a whole or on any single proposition the entire time being given to preliminary prelimi-nary discussion on the general principles prin-ciples Involved Secretary Gage was called In to give information concerning administrative features of the bill the Issue of notesj and other matteis of n technical nature relating to carrying out the provisions of the bill when It should become a law lawThe The conference went over both the House and Senate bills and It was found that differences exist all along the line The house conferees Insisted that their measure best met the requirements of the situation and the Senators equally firm In standing by their bill Strenu Ious ous objection Is made by the House comerees to the uimetauio section or the Senate bill and they also oppose the refunding section of the bil The conference did not reach a stage where any proposition to adjust any of the differences was favorably considered consid-ered I Is not meant there Is a dead lock because the consideration has not reached that stage The conference will wi continue Monday I |
