| Show GTY MARSHAL iN JML L Sandy Official Charged With Being a HoldUp JI I J TWO OTHERS ARE IMPLICATED I Hans Rasmussen Causes the Arrest of Marshal Rogers Georgu Naylor and Albert Davis on the Charge that They Attacked Him and Forced Rim to Indorse C Time Check for 25He Says He Was Beaten into Insensibility by Them Accused I Men in County Jail 0 City Marshal Charles G Rogers of Sandy spent last night as a prisoner at the county Jail With him were George Naylor proprietor of f boardinghouse board-inghouse at Sandy and Albert Davis 0 seventeenyearold boy who also resides at the smelter town The three were arrested yesterday afternoon by Deputy Sheriff Dowse on the dual charge oC robbery and grand larceny While the charges in themselves them-selves arc sensational when It Is taken Into consideration that a conservator con-servator of the law is one of the accused ac-cused the circumstances surrounding the commission of the offense are still more sol so-l Is set out in the complaint which was filed In Justice Kroegers court defendants took yesterday that the teCendants from Hans Rasmussen by force i a timechock for 25 and according to Ensmusscns story corroborated l by amass a-mass of wounds the three men first beat him Into Insensibility and when he recovered consciousness threatened to further maltreat him unless he Indorsed I In-dorsed the timecheck and delivered it tothem All this too in spite of the fact that Rasmusscn had been sick and was quite weak Rasmussen who is an employee of the Mingo smelter at Sandy says that he had been taking medical treatment In this city for two weeks when on Saturday last he went to Sandy to secure a tlmochcck for 2 due him from the smelter He secured the check and then went to Naylors boardinghouse boarding-house where he owed a bill to explain that as he desired to return to Salt Lake to take further treatment he could not settle up just then He said howpver according to his statement that he would go to West Jordan and borrow the money If possible He then started out but when three miles from I Sandy was overtaken by Rogers Nay lor and Davis who he says pounced upon him and beat him into insensibility insensi-bility His loft eye was blackdned and closed the right side of his face was skinned and he was otherwise badly bruised and battered The men he says then threw him into in-to their wagon and while Rogers who weighs 225 pounds sat on his halfdead body the rig was driven back to town and ho was thrown into the calaboose Later Rasmussen says the men came to him again and threatened to administer admin-ister another beating unless he promptly Indorsed the 23 checlc and delivered J to them lie did as ordered and was then he says turned loose and told to go to h Laboring Just then Irt view of his treatment under the Impression that Sandy was as close to that uncomfortable uncomfor-table spot no he cared to be Rasmus sen came to Salt Lake and secured the arrest of the trio When arraigned before Justice Kroc jer the defendants pleaded not guilty and In default of bonds were sent to JailOno Ono of the men gave ns an excuso for beating Rasmusecn that he struck at them when they overtook him tomorrow The preliminary hearing will be held |
