Show I CONFLICT OVER A DOG r I ONE OF THE COMBATANTS CUT I 7ITH POCKETKNIFE H E McFarland Kicked Billy Bryans Dog and Strife Resulted McFarland Come Out with Gashes I A lively mixup occurred on lower Main street shortly before 6 oclock yesterday morning In which Billy Bryan a porter and II E McFarland a miner were the principals Ofllccr Hilton was attracted to tho scene by loud cries of Murder Police but when he arrived the scrimmage had closed McFarland was bleeding from two gashes one on his left cheek the other on his neck The wounds he said had been Inflicted by a Jack knlfo In the hands of Bryan The two wore taken to the station where City Physician King was called In to Stitch up McFurlands wounds According to the kilters story he was walking north on Main street when a large dog approached him and I persisted J In becoming loa familiar MoFarlund says that he ordered the dog away punctuating the command I wllh a kick Whereupon Bryan owner of the canine came up and called him to account Then words led lo blows and the mixup followed during which he said Bryan resorted to tho use of a pocketknife I 1 Bryans story varied from this materially ma-terially McFarland he said kicked the dog savagely without the least I provocation When he remonstrated with McFarland that Individual he said waived all preliminaries and promptly landed a stiff right swing on his neck with such force as to fell him However ho quickly regained his feet and entered Into the spirit of the occasion oc-casion with both hands and a pocketknife pocket-knife Both fighters were booked for assault as-sault and battery Their ball was fixed at 2o each and the amount was dc poElted I |
