opening ses I sion The magnificent convention hall Is complete In every detail and awaits only the hour of noon June 10th The preparations for the coming gathering were carried on by two large committees One had charge of the arrangements for the serious work of the convention while the other committee com-mittee was assigned the task of prop erly entertaining the visitors While the flrst committee is resting on its oars the other body of workers will I have no rest until after it shall have sent home the visitors S HOSTELRIES FULL All the larger hostelries and the exclusive ex-clusive apartmcnlhouses have been booked to their capacity Quite a number of State delegations have rented rent-ed houses entirely for all of next week I The storm center of the convention between be-tween the sessions will be the Hotel Walton where the national committee will have Its headquarters The moot tags of the national committee will begin be-gin next Wednesday VICEPRESIDENTIAL BOOMS The Walion also will be the stamping grounds of the Maine Connecticut Nov York Ohio Michigan Wisconsin and Missouri State delegations The VicePresidential booms l of the sons of these States will also find lodgment at the Walton I National Chairman Ilanna and Secretary Sec-retary Dick will occupy suites of rooms at the Bellevue along with Senator Lodge of Massachusetts and other leading Republicans ABOUT THE HALL The convention 1all Is located In West Philadelphia close to the University Uni-versity of Pennsylvanias group of buildings and Is one and onehalf miles from the hotel district Transportation S I Transporta-tion to and from the nail is ample The auditorium has been pronounced by Republican national leaders and newspaper correspondents who have at tended many national conventions to be the most magnificent In appearance and most complete in every detail of any structure built in this country for similar purposes The acoustic properties of the hall In Its enlarged condition have not yet been practically tested but experts are of the opinion that they are as perfectas perfect-as can be expected of an auditorium oC such size sIzeSEATING SEATING CAPACITY The seating capacity Is closo to 10000 The press stand for 500 working newspaper news-paper men is directly In front of the stage and Is four feet above the main floor In front of the press stand Is the space fOI the delegates which is exactly in the center of the hall Back of the delegates are the alternates alter-nates seals On all four sides of the hall running from the main floor well up to the roof are banked row after row of seats There Is only I one gallery which runs the entire width of the hall at the rear The band will be located In the center of the gallery TELEGRAPHIC FACILITIES Back of the stage and away from the I noise of the clod are located numer ous committee rooms The telegraphic facilities are ample the Vestern Union and Postal Telegraph companies and the Aosoclated Press having spacious rooms close to the stage and which are reached by tunnels under the seats There are nearly 200 wires running Into the hall The committees of citizens having charge of the arrangements has raised nearly 130000 for the convention SEATS IN PRESS SECTION No committee has had a harder task lhan that assigned to the press com mittee It had 500 seats In the press section at its disposal to be awarded to newspaper men actually doing work for the dally papers and using the wires More than 2000 applications verc received Those pa pern fortunate enough to get seats will find their old courthouse and there a big corps of clerics stenographers and typewriters Is working to its fullest capacity ca-pacity Each delegate will receive two 1 tickets besides his own and each alter nate will receive only his own ticket Each national committeeman Is to receive re-ceive five seals Four thousand go to the city of Philadelphia and the re mainder will be distributed among Invited In-vited guests of the national committee President McKinley will receive a cei taln number for his private distribu lIon NATIONAL COMMITTEE MEETING The national committee will hold its first session In this
