Show Rep. King Charges Bennett's Record Not Typical of Utah Rep. David S. King this week stated, "Wallace Bennett's record rec-ord does not reflect basic Utah thinking. Utahns are primarily a people who, with the courage and individuality of their pioneer pio-neer forebears, favor aggressive action to support their legislative legisla-tive program." Speaking to King for Senator supporters at a luncheon at the Hotel Newhouse, Congressman King said, "By his own admission, admis-sion, Wallace Bennett is an obstructionist. ob-structionist. He votes against almost all constructive measures. While it comes as no surprise he does not represent the Democrats Demo-crats of Utah, it is apparent that he is almost completely out of step with the program of his own patry. His own Senate Minority Mi-nority leader pleaded with him to vote for the United Nations bond issue, but Bennett turned a deaf ear, and then joined with a tiny reactionary minority to vote against it. "Sen. Bennett's own standard bearer, Richard Nixon, strongly advocated foreign aid to fight communism; Bennett has within the past wo years twice voted against it. The Republican party pressed lor expansion of the minimum wage law coverage; Bennett voetd against it. The Republican Re-publican party stressed enactment enact-ment of the federal retraining program for victims of technical unemployment, but Bennett was against that," Congressman King charged. Rep. King concluded, "Our nation na-tion cannot afford to submit to the limitations of personal idiosyncrasies. idio-syncrasies. To maintain the enhance en-hance the forward strides and accomplishments of our native Utah, we must push ahead with energetic effort to achieve that legislation necessary for the positive development of our slate and nation in a world now grown small." |
