Show American Legion Peeking 10,000 New Members A goal of 10,000 new members to the Utah American Legion was set today by Major General Maxwell E. Rich, Utah Adjutant General, chairman of the membership mem-bership drive. "The American Legion is one of the most worthwhile organizations organi-zations I know of. I feel it an honor to be membership drive chairman and am confident that Utahns who are not already members will join up during this campaign," General Rich noted. General Rich went on to point out that the Legion is one of the state's best friends, sponsoring youth oratorical contests, Utah Boys' State, American Legion baseball and awards American Legion School Medal Awards for outstanding citizenship. "The American Legion aids the state to be a better place in which to live by other programs, pro-grams, also," General Rich continued. con-tinued. He mentioned the group's child welfare program in which the organization stands in place of the father to thousands of needy Utah orphans. Last year some $24,895.00 was spent in Utah on the child welfare program pro-gram by the Legion. The group also helps toward providing adequate care and protection pro-tection for the disabled war veterans. vet-erans. Some 14,121 hours of volunteer vol-unteer service was provided at the Veterans Administration Hospital last year, General Rich went on. "It's worthwhile projects such as those which the American Legion hopes to improve on and increase the number of through added membership," the General concluded. |
