Show Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Two general authorities of the LDS Church also will participate on the same program with Mr. Romney and Sen. Cannon. Elder Marion C. Romney of the Council Coun-cil of the Twelve and President Antoine R. Ivins of the First Council of the Seventy will also be on the program which begins be-gins at 8 p.m. August 28 events will include a 100-year Transportation Progress Prog-ress report put on by the Lions Club and the St. George Posse. At noon a luncheon featuring a pioneer menu is scheduled plus a program depicting 100 years of fashion and music. August 28 also will mark the beginning of three-day run of "East, Lynn," old time theatrical, theatri-cal, the start of the Dixie Dream Operetta, plus the start of a centennial cen-tennial pageant at the Santa Clara Ward Chapel. The three shows will run from August 28 to August 30. An afternoon tea August 29 will honor St. George and Dixie culture contributors. The tea will be sponsored by the Dixie Literary Guild. The Rotary Club also will give a barbecue in the City Park on Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. The evening show performances perform-ances will be augmented by the Grand Ball in the Recreation Hall on August 28. A floor show depicting 100 years of dancing plus a fashion show will gain the spotlight August 30. From August 31 to September 2 the annual Lions Club Dixie Roundup Rodeo will be held in the Dixie Sun Bowl. Activities on September 2 include the Pioneer Pio-neer Centennial Parade and the George W. Romney Will Address Centennial Meeting George Romney, president of American Motors, will be the guest speaker at Utah's Dixie centennial celebration which will be held in St. George from August 26 to September 2. Mr. Romney is a descendant of Miles Romney, the architect of the St. George Tabernacle and courthouse. He will speak at special spe-cial services in the tabernacle building on August 27. The Centennial commemorates the 100th anniversary of the founding of St. George and the St. George cotton mission. Two other native sons, U.S. Senator Howard W. Cannon (D-Nev.) (D-Nev.) and Glen E. Snow, secretary secre-tary of the National Education Assn.. Washington, D.C., will appear ap-pear on the same program, according ac-cording to General Chairman Ellis J. Pickett of St. George. Sen. Cannon is a descendant of David H. Cannon, and Mr. Snow a descendant of Erastus Snow, both founders of the cotton cot-ton mission. Activities for the big celebration celebra-tion actually will begin in Salt Lake City August 22 when a caravan of 20 autos transformed into covered wagons takes off for St. George. The "wagons" will stop off and parade at all major cities between Salt Lake City and St. George on U.S. 91. They are scheduled to arrive in St. George August 24. On August 26 senior citizens, 80 years and older, will be honored hon-ored at a program in the St. George Tabernacle, Church of windun of the Dixie Roundup Rodeo. The annual encampment of the National Society of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers will be held this year in conjunction with the centennial, according to Mr. Pickett. The encampment will be held from September 1 to 4 in St. George. |
