Show the public schools. Robert L. Campbell was Utah's ifixst territorial superintendent of public instruction and a pioneer pio-neer in Utah's efforts to achieve free public schools. The awards were made by Reho H. Thorum, president of the Utah Chapter of the National School Public Relations Re-lations Association. Five Newspapers Cited for Service Five Utah newspapers were cited for outstanding service in helping the public to better understand un-derstand their system of public schools. Newspapers receiving copper plaques presented by the Utah Education Association and Utah Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association are: The Sal Lake Tribune, Deseret News, Emery County Progress, Logan Herald Journal and the Richfield Reaper. The Tribune received two cita tions for "fair, continuous and effective treatment of educational education-al issues on its editorial page." The Tribune and the education writer received a separate citation cita-tion for outstanding reporting of the opening of school. The Deseret News and education educa-tion writer Lavor K. Chaffin received re-ceived a citation for "outstanding coverage of education issues, problems and achievements in its column They're Your Schools by Mr? Chaffin. Citation for outstanding continuous con-tinuous coverage of the work of the public schools was awarded the Logan Herald Journal. The Emery County Progress, Castledale, Utah, received an award for "outstanding continuous continu-ous coverage of education by a community weekly newspaper." The Richfield Reaper received an award for its outstanding supplemental describing work of the Sevier County Schools in a special supplement and picture story entitled "Sevier School District A Year of Progress." The awards, known as the Robert Rob-ert L. Campbell Awards, will be made annually to newspapers, radio stations and TV stations in recognition of their efforts to improve public understanding of |
