Show the-l the-l EASED GRAPEVINE Herbert G. Spencer, 185 West 5900 South, has filed for reelection reelec-tion to the Murray Board of Education. He has been a resident resi-dent of Murray since 1931. A tentative budget estimate of more than three million dollars has been approved by the Utah State Board of Corrections. It is higher by $800,000 than the 1959-60 program. The plan calls for a psychiatric treatment unit under the Adult Probation and Parole Department and increase salaries for Utah State Prison personnel. Albert G. Zenger, 349 E. 9th So., has been appointed deputy district governor of Region 1, Lions International Utah Dist. 28T. Mr. Zenger has served as president of the Glendale Park Lions Club and as zone chairman in the district cabinet during the 1959-60 term. He is office manager man-ager at Carlisle Finance Corp. Appointment of an extension librarian with the Utah State Library Commission was approved ap-proved this week by the State Board of Examiners. Named was Mrs. Vivian H. Howard, Springville, Spring-ville, 111. Her salary will be $530 a month effective Sept. 1. Some 800 members of Salt . Lake Local 8304, Communications Communica-tions Workers of America, have ratified a three year contract with Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Co. The past calls for wage increases for traffic operators and clerical workers ranging from $1.50 to $2.50 per week and for plant craftsmen from $1.50 to $4 a week in the Salt Lake area. Sales of Litton Industries, who operate a plant in Salt Lake City, for the fiscal year ending July 31 totaled approximately $185,-000,000, $185,-000,000, an increase of almost 50 per cent over the previous year, Charles B. Thornton, president and board chairman, stated in a preliminary report to the company's com-pany's board of directors. "Production of third stage components of the Minuteman at Bacchus will create as many as 1,1000 new jobs in Salt Lake County and increase Utah payrolls pay-rolls by millions of dollars a year," Rep. David S. King said this week. At a Democratic rally in the Newhouse Hotel, the congressman congress-man said: "There is a strong possibility that Minuteman will become the nation's principal ocean spanning vehicle. In this event, Utah will become one of the most important impor-tant centers in the whole defense program." Army Pvt. Lloyd T. Pass, son of Mrs. Elva Pass, 45 E. North Temple, completed the supply course recently at the Transportation Transpor-tation School, Fort Eustis, Va. Pass was trained to maintain stock records used in the receipt and issuance of transportation supplies. He entered the Army last June and completed basic training at Fort Ord, Calif. He is a graduate of Lauzinger High School, Lawndale, Calif., and a graduate of El Camino Jr. College. - - |
