Show AMVETS Program Seeking to Provide Headstones The Utah Department of AMVETS has undertaken a project proj-ect to see that headstones are provided for those veterans who presently lie in unmarked graves in Utah, according to a statement today by Arthur N. Howell, state commander, Ogden. According to Cdr. fowell it has become increasingly evident on Memorial Days of the past few years that a significant number num-ber of veterans of the wars in which the United States has been involved are buried in unmarked graves, or graves which are not properly identified with veterans headstones. "For the past several years on Memorial Day," Cdr. Howell said, "it has become evident that more and more veterans who have died are in graves not identified iden-tified by veteran's headstones. Most veterans are more proud of their service years than any other period in their lives and would like to feel that their service was recognized following their death. Such recognition is offered at no charge. The Utah Department of AMVETS seeks to find such cases of improper marking and to rectify the situation situa-tion through the State Veterans Office. Persons who know of such improper markings are urged to contact me at 470 13th St., Ogden, EXport 3-4633 or John J. Waldron, N. 39 Verde-land Verde-land Park, Layton, Phone 376-4091." |
