Show School Attendance Shows Increase In S. L. District School attendance has increased 29.7 per cent in the Salt Lake School District since 1950, according ac-cording to Statistical Abstract of Government in Utah, published recently by Utah Foundation. The 65 page reference document docu-ment reveals that the average daily attendance in Salt Lake School District was 38,696 in 1958-59 year, compared to 29,-825 29,-825 in 1949-50. In the state, the average daily attendance increased in-creased 45 per cent, from 142,-272 142,-272 in 1949-50 to 206,080 in 1958-59. Since 1940 school attendance has risen 35.8 per cent in Salt Lake School District, the study notes. This compares with the statewide rise of 66 per cent for the same period. In the 1939-40 school year there were 24,498 pupils in average daily attendance attend-ance at the Salt Lake District schools. Another interesting fact in the foundation publication is that Salt Lake School District employed em-ployed an average of 1,312 class room teachers during the last school, year. When this item is related to the number of pupils in attendance, the average pupil teacher ratio in the district is found to be 29.4 pupils for each teacher. In the state the average ratio last year was 27.7. |
