Show Demo Advisory Council Meets This Weekend in Washington Democratic Advisory Council will hold a three day meeting in New York City Saturday, Sunday Sun-day and Monday, Dec. 5, 6 and 7. This is the first meeting to be held by the 31 members outside out-side of Washington, D.C. Former President Truman and Adlai Stevenson will be among the Council members present at the three-day session. On Saturday and Sunday, the Council will be in all day closed sessions at the Hotel Waldorf-Astoria. Waldorf-Astoria. On Monday the Council will meet during the day with the 126 members of its six policy pol-icy Advisory Committees: Advisory Ad-visory Committee on Economic Policy; Dr. John K. Galbraith, chairman; Advisory Committee on Foreign Policy, Dean Ache-son, Ache-son, chairman; Advisory Committee Com-mittee on Labor Policy, George M. Harrison, chairman; Advisory Committee on Science and Technology, Tech-nology, Dr. Ernest C. Pollard, chairman; Advisory Committee on Urban and Suburban Problems; Prob-lems; Mayor Richard C. Lee, chairman; and Advisory Chairman Chair-man on Farm Policy, Governor Herschel C. Loveless, chairman. On Monday evening the Council Coun-cil will sponsor a $100 tribute dinner to Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt in the Grand Ballroom of the Hotel Waldorf-Astoria. The proceeds pro-ceeds of the dinner will be made available to the Democratic National Na-tional Committee for the operating operat-ing expenses incurred by the Council. On Saturday and Sunday the Council will consider a considerable consid-erable number of major policy statements and pamphlets submitted sub-mitted by its Advisory Committees. Commit-tees. Press conferences will be conducted by Democratic National Na-tional Chairman Paul M. Butler Saturday and Sunday. It is anticipated an-ticipated that a comprehensive statement on national and international inter-national policy will be available for release on Sunday. The Monday evening tribute dinner to Mrs. Roosevelt and the preceding sessions of the Council Coun-cil are looked upon as the "kick-off" "kick-off" for the 1960 Presidential campaign. Forty-one Democratic Senators and twenty Democratic governors have joined Adlai E. Stevenson in sponsoring the dinner. din-ner. Former President Harry S. Truman is honorary chairman. Other speakers at the dinner will be: Democratic National Chairman Paul Butler, Council members and former New York Governors Herbert H. Lehman and Averell Harriman, and Florida's Flor-ida's Governor LeRay Collins, the latest member of the council. Mayor Robert F. Wagner will extend greetings to the dinner qn behalf of New York City. Thomas K. Finletter, former Secretary of Air Force and a member of the Administrative Committee will be toastmaster. |
