Show Rep. King to Participate in Conference oh A. F. Cutbacks Rep. David S. King this week said that he will participate next Tuesday, May 19, in a conference confer-ence called by the Air Force to explain its decision to consolidate consoli-date eight regional ground electronics elec-tronics engineering installation agency offices into three offices. Mr. King has repeatedly demanded de-manded an Air Force explanation explana-tion of the decision, and urged the House Armed Service Committee Com-mittee and the Defense Subcommittee Sub-committee of the Appropriations Committee to review it. The Regional GIA office at Clearfield would be one of the offices closed by the consolida-tioned consolida-tioned which the Air Force proposes pro-poses to carry out July 1. Mr. King, a member of the committee on Science and Astronautics, As-tronautics, said he seriously questions that the Air Force can justify a cutback in GIA, an operation op-eration which directly affects the nation's space and air defense de-fense efforts. He said a manpower man-power cut has been the only reason the Air Force has so far given him for the move. In his latest challenge of the Air Force position, Mr. King has urged Rep. George H. Mahon of Texas, chairman of the Defense Sub-committee, to review the consolidation in its hearings on the defense appropriations for fiscal 1960. Mr. King said the Tuesday conference con-ference will be held at 10 a.m. at the Pentagon. |
