Show U Without Injuries For Denver Game University of Utah Coach Ray Nagel had a bundle of good news Monday as his Redskin gridders began preparations for Friday night's tussle with Denver U. at Denver. For the first time since the season opener against Oregon his club is without a serious injury. Trainer Walt Deland reports that every one of the Utes will be available for action against the Pioneers and nearly all will be at 100 per cent efficiency. This excludes Eddie Kawano, who was reported out for the season. Back for duty is speed merchant Dennis Zito, who had only a slight limp Monday and Deland feels that he'll be raring to go Friday. . Larry Wilson, Ute co-captain, played with a harness on his shoulder against BYU and even though hampered, turned in a fine game. Nagel said of Wilson, "Just he fact that Larry is in the line-up gave our kids a boost. He was not his old self against the Y, but we expect him to be in top form for the Pioneers and this will really help. Ken Peterson, starting left tackle, suffered a concussion in the BYU game as did second string right half Bill Howard, but both were out for drills Monday. Peterson played a fine game against the Cougars. The Ute mentor praised the play of Wilson, Peterson, quarterback quar-terback Ken Vierra, Monk Bailey and Bob Mastelotto in the Utes' 20-8 victory over their bitter rivals from Provo. Vierra called a fine game. He threw two scoring scor-ing passes and ran 12 yards for another tally on a bootleg. Mastelotto Mas-telotto ran for 91 yards against the Y, which was 15 yards more than the entire BYU club regis-1 tered from rushing. The speedy left half also scored one TD on a pass reception and kicked two extra points for quite an eve-nine. eve-nine. Bailey was a consistent ground gainer for the Indians all night. . Nagel is worried about the Denver backfield. Paul Collins, the Skyline spring champ is a real threat as are several other of the Pioneer backs. The Ute scouts compare the backfield strength of Denver with that of Oregon who the Utes met in the season opener. |
